Scarborough Hospital expansion construction praised in inspection report

Constructors working on the new state-of-the-art Urgent and Emergency Care Centre (UECC) have been applauded for their overall approach to the £47 million project.

After six years of planning and a two-year construction period, the UECC is expected to open in the summer. It is the largest capital investment in the Trust’s history.

The principal contractor of the new UECC, Integrated Health Projects (IHP) has achieved a remarkable 100% in every quality check under the ‘Considerate Constructors’ scheme, demonstrating a strong commitment to the aims of the flagship project and an exceptionally high level of attention.

Rapid Diagnostic Centre becomes permanent service

The Rapid Diagnostic Centre (RDC) at York Hospital is now a permanent service, meaning patients will continue to benefit from faster and earlier cancer diagnosis.

Since its introduction, this service has transformed referrals, creating a ‘beacon of hope’ for patients with potential cancer symptoms.

In a recent survey, 95.6 percent of patients responded positively to the RDC, with one patient saying they “felt very supported during a worrying time”, describing the service as “prompt and empathetic.”

Faster cancer diagnosis can lead to better outcomes for patients. The RDC team is committed to continuous service improvement, focusing on maximising the patient experience and offering individualised care during a difficult and emotional time.

New RVS cafe opens at Scarborough Hospital

The Royal Voluntary Service (RVS) café at Scarborough Hospital has re-opened after a two-week refurbishment. It was officially re-opened by RVS Deputy CEO Sam Ward OBE during a ribbon-cutting ceremony in March.

The café’s volunteers serve a menu of appetising food and drink to patients, staff, visitors, and other volunteers.

Chris Bowes, Capital Projects Manager at York Teaching Hospital Facilities Management, said, “The RVS café has been based here at Scarborough Hospital for more than 40 years and it is much loved and valued by patients, staff, and visitors.

“Now it has had a fantastic makeover and looks bright and fresh. We at YTHFM worked closely with RVS and their contractors to make sure the refurbishment ran smoothly. We hope everyone enjoys the new lo0ok and many thanks to RVS and the volunteers who do such a great job.”

Final push for Scarborough Hospital extension appeal

Hospital fundraisers are reaching out to the East Coast community to help meet their final appeal target of £400,000.

York & Scarborough Hospitals Charity have raised a staggering £383,000 but are £17,000 from achieving their final target.  Generous donors have already assisted in helping to pay for the extras within the new state-of-the-art Urgent and Emergency Care Centre (UECC).  However, they are appealing for the public’s support to help them cross the ‘finish line’ and help with their shortfall.

If you are thinking of hosting a charity event within the next few months, the charity would love to hear from you.
