The annual survey of inpatients in NHS hospitals across the country, run by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) has overall revealed a positive picture at Hampshire Hospitals. The trust scored 9.2 out of 10 when patients were asked whether they had confidence and trust in the doctors and nurses treating them, whilst patients also rated HHFT 9.2 out of 10 when asked whether they felt they were treated with dignity and respect while in hospital. Read the full story here.

A HHFT acute and urgent care staff nurse, Emmanuel Asimah, was recently awarded the Royal College of Nursing south-east region’s Black History Month ‘Making a Difference Award’ 2022. The awards form a key part of the region’s annual celebration of Black History Month in October, with 60,000 members from across the region invited to nominate colleagues who had made a real difference in the delivery of healthcare. Learn more about Emmanuel's achievement here.

An exciting new piece of equipment which will support the trust's skin cancer services has landed at HHFT thanks to funds raised by the Hampshire Medical Fund. This equipment, which will streamline the process of checking for moles and comparing records, will mean that patients spend less time in hospital and staff can more easily identify and provide treatment. Find out more about this new addition here.

Hampshire Hospitals will play a vital role in a new respiratory virus study taking place across the county, looking into the leading cause of infant hospitalisation. RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus) is one of the leading causes of hospitalisation in all infants worldwide and affects 90% of children before the age of two. In recent months, there has been a resurgence of RSV and this study aims to look at how RSV infections are managed. Full story here.

Earlier this month we held our latest Health Focus event, focused on all-things organ donation! The free virtual event allowed Members and the public to learn more about organ donation, as well as hearing the amazing story of Amy and her family who gave a lift-changing gift to another at such a difficult time. Recordings of the event, including more about organ donation, Amy’s story and an update from chief executive Alex Whitfield, are available to view here.

Hampshire Hospitals Charity has this month provided thousands of gifts and treats to Hampshire Hospitals staff to recognise and reward teams for their ongoing efforts. The celebration, known as ‘Staff Focus Week’ was a chance for us to say thank you to staff and show our appreciation for their contribution to healthcare at HHFT. Over seven days, staff were gifted items and goodies which were delivered to wards and departments by the trust’s senior team!

This month, Winchester Hospice celebrated their first birthday by going purple! On Friday 14th October, we celebrated one year since Winchester Hospice opened its doors back in September 2021 through wearing purple with our community! Thank you to everyone who joined in or made a donation in celebration - it was fantastic to see so many people going purple and supporting the charity.
