Our hospitals continue to be incredibly busy and we’re asking our communities to help us protect care for those who need it most by only attending the emergency department for a life-threatening illness or injury. We're also asking friends and loved ones of patients ready for discharge to help support with getting them home at the earliest opportunity. Hampshire’s new Elective Hub has now been given the green light and building work at the Royal County Hampshire Hospital in Winchester will now begin. The new facility will provide more capacity and allow more planned orthopaedic operations to take place, therefore improving access and reducing waiting lists across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. 

At the same time as building the new Elective Hub, we will also be commencing the construction of a new orthopaedic outpatient facility at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital. Scheduled to open in the summer 2025 to further support the delivery of planned operations, this is also part of the Trust’s ongoing commitment and investment into services in Winchester. We are delighted to be included in the government’s national New Hospital Programme, with a once-in-a-generation opportunity to invest between £700 million and £900 million to improve our hospital facilities and hospital services for decades to come. The Care Quality Commission’s (CQC) 2023 Maternity Survey results have been welcomed by the team here at Hampshire Hospitals, with positive progress demonstrated on the previous year’s results, providing reassuring insight for expectant parents. The survey showed year-on-year improvements across the pregnancy, birth, and postnatal journey, with feedback from 243 women and their families - a response rate ten per cent higher than the national average.
