A host of Hampshire Hospitals staff members have been recognised at the HHFT People Awards, with this year’s winners announced following a glamorous ceremony held earlier this month! With nearly 400 nominations submitted, 140 colleagues were invited to attend the special evening of celebration hosted at Winchester Cathedral, recognising the finalists and winners for each of the nine award categories. Learn more and view the full list of award winners here.

A new surgical unit has opened at Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester, supporting patients who need urgent surgical care to get the treatment they need sooner. The surgical assessment unit can care for patients who have either been referred to the unit by their GP or who have been identified as suitable for the unit when they arrive in the emergency department – reducing the number of patients waiting to be seen. Full story here.

We're delighted to have opened a new 'Molecular Hub' facility at HHFT, creating a space for research and innovation to take place within the heart of our very own hospital walls. Healthcare scientists based at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital will work on behalf of the NHS to conduct research that will help improve services across the country, including looking into infectious diseases, specifically around the sequencing of Covid-19. Find out more here.

Results from a recent national staff survey show staff at Hampshire Hospitals feel their role makes a difference to patients, in a year which has seen sustained pressures on services. The survey, which is run annually across the country, invites members of staff to answer questions about what it is like to work in the NHS and at their trust. As well as overall engagement, the survey measures the experiences of staff based on the seven themes in the NHS People Promise. More details available here.

Earlier this month we celebrated International Women's Day at HHFT and to mark the occasion we spotlighted a particularly special Hampshire Hospitals colleague. Alongside her role as a sports exercise and medicine consultant, Katy Hornby recently became the first ever female team doctor for the England Rugby men's team - an incredible honour within elite sport - after being appointed ahead of the current Six Nations tournament. Hear more about her story here.

Earlier this year, a number of Hampshire Hospitals staff put on a magical pantomime of Aladdin and The Magical Bedpan, raising £7,500 for our wonderful Hampshire Hospitals Charity! The funds raised from the show, which saw over 700 ticket sales across two showings, will be utilised for equipment investment, staff training, refurbishing wards, enhancing staff welfare initiatives and so much more. Find out more here.

We continue to see a high number of attendances to our emergency departments and significant pressures continue to be felt across our hospitals. Particularly as we approach Easter, we’re asking people to consider the range of services available, ensuring they use the right service at the right time to support our teams who are working incredibly hard to care for everyone. As ever, your NHS is always here for you and if you have a life-threatening emergency or are in need of urgent care, always dial 999.

Hampshire Hospitals Members are invited to Hampshire Hospitals Charity’s very first Charity Ball – a glamorous evening of dancing and dining to celebrate our trust and the wonderful colleagues that make up Team HHFT, all whilst raising funds for our brilliant charity.

The event will be held on Saturday 28th October at the Apollo Hotel in Basingstoke and will host welcome drinks, a full three course meal, live music, a dance performance and so much more.
